Thrift Stores excite all in Ohio Amish Country

May 2023

There are many reasons why people go thrift store shopping; it's a great way to save money and find unique items that you wouldn't be able to find in regular stores. Thrift stores often have a wide variety of clothing, furniture, and household items at a fraction of the cost of new things. They are also a more sustainable option as it reduces waste and supports local charities. Buckle up your seatbelt and head out on the Amish Country backroads to enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the sense of adventure that comes with finding hidden treasures. Here is a list of the best thrift stores in Holmes County.

Harvest Thrift Stores are located in Wilmot and in Sugarcreek. Filled to the brim, these two Harvest Thrift Stores have something for everyone. What better way to help change the world than when you make a purchase from a store where proceeds go to help mission trips around the world.  Check their Facebook pages for up-to-date seasonal specials and flash sales.

Outside Mount Hope is the Trading Post Thrift Store, where every sale goes toward the non-profit Ohio Wilderness Boys. Volunteers stock the shelves daily with newly donated items; you can stop by every day of your trip to Ohio’s Amish Country and find something new. This stop is located next to the fruit and produce auction that takes place all summer and fall. So make sure to plan ahead to stop in and grab a case or two of Ohio Amish produce.

One of the community staples is the MCC-sponsored Save and Serve Thrift Store in Millersburg. Mainly staffed by local volunteers, this non-profit sends relief throughout the world. While shopping for treasures, you are helping meet the basic human needs of others. While you are in the store you can have the chance to sign up to bid on the silent auction items. The items are often sought after collectibles and memorabilia. You sign the book with your bid and can either stop in or call weekly to increase that bid until the auction closes, it is kinda fun to see all the items that end up in the case.

Goodwill Industries of Wayne and Holmes County offers a unique shopping experience where you will find enormous selections and fantastic bargains. New items are placed on the floor every hour, so you will always be able to find something you have not seen before. Proceeds from sales provide education and training services to local individuals with barriers to employment. Make sure if you are a garage sale loving person to stop here the week after the large community sales, frequent shoppers often proclaim the best deals are found in that time frame.
