Family-friendly adventures abound in Amish Country!
Everybody is counting the days until time off and time together. How will you share those precious and free minutes with your loved ones? Family vacation is an opportunity for parents and children to explore the area and their bonds together. Your kids may not remember their third day in fifth grade math, but they will definitely flashback to feeding a giraffe from the back of a horse-drawn wagon. We’ve got an abundance of activities that will make the whole family happy. Come create some memories
Take in the old-fashioned farming experience when you visit the working farm and animal park at The Farm at Walnut Creek. Hand-feed over 600 domestic and exotic animals on the horse-drawn wagon ride or drive-through tour, including giraffes. The Farm features a non-electric Amish farmhouse for visitors to tour at their own pace and can observe baking, canning, and sewing demonstrations.
Cabin Creek Golf offers one of the most unique, entertaining, and challenging 36-hole miniature golf courses. You’ll face water hazards, a geyser, and bridges, among other awesome obstacles. The center also offers a driving range, sand volleyball, and batting cages.
Enjoy a sandwich, salad, and ice cream at Mudd Valley Cafe and Creamery, located in Walnut Creek Cheese. The Cafe is a full service eatery that offers a wide variety of options for brunch, lunch, dessert, and more! This stop has the added bonus of being located inside of one of the area’s largest bulk food shops. You can eat and browse the bulk goodies! Stock up on snacks, produce, candy, or almost anything else at Walnut Creek Cheese.
Timbercrest Camp and RV Park is surrounded by trees and offers a peaceful spot to camp in the hills just minutes from all the local attractions. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and wifi. Kids will enjoy the playground areas and nature trails. The park features full hookup pull-thru sites, back-in full hookup sites, and tent sites.
Long legs aren’t everything! Did you know that the fastest speed recorded for a running giraffe is 37 mph, but a sprinting horse has been clocked at 55 mph?
Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery features all the area’s best baked goods, from fry pies to whole pies. They supply fresh, home-grown produce in season. In the Farm petting area, kids can visit with some of Holmes County's biggest Belgian horses. Buggy rides and pony rides are also available.
Experience side-splitting variety shows, concerts, and seasonal events at the Amish Country Theater just outside of Berlin. Guests of all ages will enjoy the hilarious characters that they’ll encounter in a remarkable 600-seat auditorium with state-of-the art lighting, video, and sound.
Is there a better way to experience Amish Country than on horseback? Amish Country Riding Stables, at Guggisberg Swiss Inn, offers an excellent adventure along with gorgeous views of Doughty Valley. You don’t have to be a guest at the Inn to ride, but it would be a convenient opportunity! Anyone aged 8-70 is welcome to join an experienced guide for a 45-minute ride in the hills.
If you wake up near Walnut Creek, stop in at Der Dutchman Restaurant. They’ve been serving delicious Amish-style comfort food since 1969.
