Welcome to your home away from home! When you visit Amish Country Ohio, you not only encounter our culture and learn about the lifestyle of local Amish, you become a part of our community. We love sharing hospitality and stories. You’ll find opportunities to meet locals, ask questions, sample traditional delights, and experience the way of life here. You can pull up a chair to the dining room table of an Amish family and share a home-cooked meal under rasping gas lights. Step inside and see what life looks like from the seat of a buggy. Learn about an Amish child’s typical school day. Ask the questions that pique your curiosity. There are many opportunities to share the heritage here. Here are a few suggestions.

A Country Journey

Troyer’s Amish Tours knows that Amish Country can be wonderful and overwhelming. What should you do? Where should you go? Troyer’s creates informational tours and organizes private dinners to provide authentic experiences that guests will never forget. Tours focus on agriculture, history, Amish artisans, and wineries.

Tour an Amish Home

At Yoder’s Amish Home, local guides explain culture and lifestyle as they take visitors through two Amish homes. Kids will especially enjoy the barn with petting area, buggy rides, school house tours, gift shop, and covered picnic area. Yoder’s has been locally owned since 1983 and is a great experiential opportunity.

Art and Culture

Wondering about the history of Amish Country? At the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center, you can take an interpretive tour of Behalt, a stunning 265 ft. circular mural depicting Amish and Mennonite heritage. The museum also features videos, artifact displays, a Conestoga wagon, a one-room schoolhouse, bookstore, gift shop, and local crafts. It’s a great place to ask your questions.

Trip Trivia

Many Amish children grow up with Pennsylvania Dutch as their primary language and learn English at school. If you speak to a toddler who doesn’t respond, they may not understand what you’re saying.

Something Sweet

Coblentz Chocolate Company offers delicious, hand-made candies, filled with fresh ingredients such as dairy cream, caramel, and crunchy nuts. Fresh, local cream and butter are used in their confections, as well as a high percent cocoa butter, which sets them apart from other chocolatiers.

Traditional Techniques

Colonial Homestead has over 8,000 antique hand tools for woodworking, blacksmithing, leather work, and other historic hand trades. It is a working 1800's woodshop and gunsmith, and also features fine antique furnishings.

Outfitting the Rustic

The Cabin Store offers a vast variety of custom rustic furniture including but not limited to bedroom, living room, dining room sets, kitchen cabinets, and vanities. Furniture is handcrafted using barn wood, aspen, red cedar, and hickory. They also feature area rugs, genuine antler chandeliers and lots of rustic accessories.

Amish Co Pro Tip

Have you noticed those hand-painted signs advertising eggs or baskets at the end of a lane? These offer opportunities to buy homegrown and crafted items directly from an Amish family. Home businesses can’t process credit cards, so always carry some cash in Amish Country.

Enjoy a traditional meal in an Amish home at Weaver’s Home Cooking. Large and small groups are welcome at Weaver’s. Call for reservations so that they are able to prepare in advance.

A Special Meal

Sue’s Gourmet Meals specializes in creating memories. She provides delicious home-cooked meals at an Amish Home near Charm. It’s perfect for retreats, church groups, family gatherings, or showers. Sue’s also specializes in tea parties, banquets, birthday parties, and other social events. Call for information and reservations.

Conveniently located next to the best shopping in Berlin, A Day in the Country Bed and Breakfast is your home for small-town hospitality during your visit to Amish Country. This renovated two-story home features three upstairs units with many amenities including a full hot breakfast every day.
