Spring in Ohio Amish Country: the flowers begin to bloom, the days grow longer and Dandelion Sangria becomes the beverage of choice!
Get your first glass of the season at the 25th Annual Breitenbach Dandelion May Fest, May 4 and 5. The new Roadhouse Amphitheater will become “dandelion central,” with activities for the whole family.
Sample food made from the flower, like dandelion gravy, dandelion sausage and dandelion lasagna! Chefs Sherry Schie, Cameron Krahel and Matthew Ridgeway will cook and provide tips on how to incorporate dandelions into your menu and share the healthful benefits of eating dandelions. Their talk will start at noon on Saturday, the 5th.
Dandelion crafts from artisans are also a highlight of the weekend. Find beautiful dandelion crafts from handmade soap to blown glass.
Bring the kids for the dandelion picking contest on Saturday, where they will meet in front of the Tool Shed. Contests include: largest, smallest, longest stemmed and most dandelions. After the contest kids will use their dandelions to make their own dandelion jelly.
Love to run? The 5K Dandelion May Run is a scenic run through the rolling hills of Amish Country and around the Breitenbach property on Saturday morning. Sign up for the run and get a t-shirt, wine stopper and wine to sample afterwards. All proceeds go to the Zachary Davis Memorial Foundation, an organization dedicated to bringing awareness to youth of the dangers of drugs.
Hang out all weekend and enjoy live music from Scott Paris, Weathered Road, folk singer Gary Lee, Acoustic Mud and The Imaginary Cookies. Wines of Breitenbach will be available as well as the May Fest specialties.
