You also can have fun making your own special treat, just by dipping luscious strawberries in swirls of dark chocolate. So easy, so special.
You will need 1 pint-basket (1 pound) of fresh strawberries, 2 cups (12 ounces) of dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate, baking sheet lined in parchment or waxed paper, and bowls/pans for melting the chocolate.
Rinse strawberries under cool running water and pat or air dry completely before dipping.
Melt the chocolate. On the range, put chocolate into a heatproof medium bowl. Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off the heat; set the bowls of chocolate over the water to melt. Stir until smooth. Or, in the microwave, melt chocolates at half power, for 1 minute, stir and then heat for another minute or until melted.
Once chocolate is melted and smooth, remove from heat. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip the fruit into the dark chocolate, lift and twist slightly, letting any excess chocolate fall back into the bowl. Lay strawberries carefully on paper and leave them until chocolate sets, about 30 minutes. Putting the baking sheet in the fridge will also speed this process along.
Variations: You can melt white chocolate or caramel and drizzle over the dipped fruit. The same process also can be used for chocolate-dipping pretzels, potato chips, pound cake, marshmallows, grapes and other treats.
