Old Fashioned 4th of July in Amish Country

June 15, 2016

For authentic experiences, try the two-day Summer Picnic Days Sale at the Ashery Country store near Mount Hope on July 1-2, Music on the Square with Abe Yoder at 7 p.m. on July 1 in Berlin, or the Cookbook Extravaganza at Berlin’s Gospel Book Store on July 2.

But be sure to make room for the weekend’s star attraction! The exciting Thunder Over Holmes County will take place on July 1 and 2. This free event includes food purveyors on the Courthouse Lawn with BBQ, frozen bananas and more, and a kids’ area with inflatables, carnival games, face painting and other fun. For grownups, the Beer Garden offers five different beers on tap and live entertainment on stage both days. A spectacular fireworks display will commence at dusk on July 2, and bands will continue to play well into the night.

The shops of Millersburg will be open and waiting for shoppers of antiques, home décor, arts and more, while Hotel Millersburg, Comfort Inn and others offer lodging.
